In his book ‘Ghost and Ghoul’ (1962) Thomas Charles Lethbridge writes of a theory that stone architecture and natural materials like quartz have the ability to serve as recording devices, capturing historical traumas that can later be teased out by contemporary bodies, who act as organic detectors, decoders and amplifiers. Following the movie’s popularity, the idea and the term “stone tape” were retrospectively and inaccurately attributed to the British archaeologist turned parapsychologistT. C.
